How it works
A pondless waterfall is a rather simple stream of water that continuously flows back and forth without the need for a pond. Water stays in a large in-ground reservoir and flows through a spillway. This lets the water flow back down into the reservoir and re-circulate back to where it was. Due to its simplicity, the system isn’t very hard to take care of and is easy to install. Not to mention very energy efficient.
Maintaining the waterfall
To maintain the waterfall there are a few things that you should be aware of. Firstly, it is not recommended to place your waterfall within direct sunlight. If you do so the water can evaporate due to the heat. Unwanted plant growth can also occur, such as mosses or algae. Distilled water is the only kind that should be used for a home waterfall. Using hose water can cause issues with the circulation if any dirty water were to enter it. Due to this you should also clean the water regularly and replace fifteen percent of it every six months with cleaner distilled water.
Waterfall Installation
The first step of installing a home waterfall is to determine the intended width of the waterfall. This will allow you to determine the most appropriate pump for the location. A spillway will then be placed atop the structure and secured with cinder blocks. The spillway is then connected to the pump using a hose and the pump submerged in the center of the pond. After that, at that’s left is to add rocks, plants, flowers, and anything else that can help give the waterfall a more natural and realistic look.
